Hello, my name is Dr. Day with Innovation Dermatology. We often get questions of what patients can bring to make their skin exam more efficient. A few things that we would generally recommend to make your visit as efficient as possible while maximizing the benefit you get from that visit, is by doing a few simple steps.
The first is to bring in a complete medical history. Your skin is one of your organs of the body and is often related to other health problems you may be experiencing. Consequently, it’s helpful for us to know what other health problems you may have to help try and tie that picture together.
The next thing as a complete medication list. This includes products that you’ve been prescribed before whether or not they have or have not worked as well as over-the-counter products. That’s important in determining which products have been helpful for you or not, and to choose the right treatment that will serve you best. The next issue is going to be regarding allergies. A complete allergy list is important because some of the medications that are prescribed whether they’re oral medications or even creams can have interactions with other medications. Consequently, it’s important for your physician to know what your complete allergy list is.
And last but not least comfortable fitting clothing. If you wear comfortable fitting clothing you’ll likely not need to wear a paper down for about 15 to 20 minutes. It’s also important to realize that a lot of a skin exam is going to focus on hair, nails, and the skin. Consequently, if your problem is on the face and you wear complete makeup you’ll spend time putting the makeup on and then we’ll spend time taking the makeup off. So, to save you time and product and hard work we generally would recommend coming without makeup on. Thank you for your time and we look forward to seeing you soon.
